South Delhi district is a part of National Capital Territory of Delhi in India. The district has a total area of 247 km². The district is divided into 3 sub-divisions namely, Hauz Khas, Saket and Mehrauli. The history of South Delhi dates back to the fourteenth century when the Tughlaq dynasty established the city of Jahanpanah, which was located near the present-day area of Mehrauli. During the time of the Mughal Empire, the area consisted of a collection of villages, including the villages of Mehrauli, and Sangam Vihar, among others.
