About Central Delhi District which is one of the 11 Districts of Delhi. This district is surrounded by Yamuna river in the east. It is considered the most important area of Delhi because of its ancient, former and the seat of the central government. It was carved out as one of the nine districts of the National Capital Territory (NCT) since 1931 (although there are now 11 districts in the state of Delhi). it covers an area of 25 sq km and has a population of 669,493. Its southern part has the historical center also known as Old Delhi and its northern part was mainly developed during the British rule, which is famous for its Raj era buildings and institutions. Central Delhi is a collection of Mughal and British architecture, the most striking here are the Red Fort UNESCO World Heritage Jama Masjid (Delhi's main mosque).
